I have taken on the intimidating task of recreating the entire 78-card Tarot deck,
attempting to inject some humor and social commentary into the all-too sacrosanct (and
nearly always kitschy) fortune-telling medium. Although others have attempted a
photographic Tarot, I know of none completed that are not insipid and/or really crappy. My
hope is that mine are neither crappy or insipid.
My resumê.
My interpretations have little to do with the traditional meanings of the cards and in
some cases are in direct contradiction. However, I think that this project is within the
original intent of the Tarot, which is as a game (Trumps) and as a miniature art
collection. I am using friends as well as professional models and am approaching each card
as a separate piece, therefore there is no uniformity of style, even within specific
houses of the deck. The models have acted as muses for me and have either directly or
indirectly guided the development of their respective cards. I hope I have done them
justice.
I will post new cards as I complete them, so you can monitor my progress or lack thereof.
# MAJOR ARCANA (Trumps) COMPLETED: 19/22; # LEFT TO SHOOT: 3
# MINOR ARCANA (Suits) COMPLETED: 39/56; # LEFT TO SHOOT: 11
Red indicates cards
which have been assigned to someone already.
Half red/half gray indicates
multi-character cards for which some models are committed.
Grayscale indicates cards
which have a concept worked up, but are not assigned yet.
Models still needed!. If you work in or travel to the NYC area, Email me.
